Geothermal Heat Pumps Eligible for Tax Credit of 30%

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, H.R.1 (the Stimulus Bill of 2009) that was signed by the President on February 17, 2009, contains long-term tax incentives to encourage the installation of geothermal heat pumps in residences. The new law, effective January 1, 2009, offers a one-time tax credit of 30% of the total investment for geothermal heat pump installations―without the limit of $2,000 that was part of the law enacted in 2008.

The first building in Polk County to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council is also the headquarters for a company that manufactures a renewable energy system that uses energy from the earth for both space heating and cooling and commercial water heating.

The 'LEED Certification Mark' is a registered trademark owned by the U.S. Green Building Council and is used by permission.

Mr. Roberts told the new graduates that sustainability means "sustaining our planet by consuming less non-renewable resources, leaving a smaller environmental footprint, preserving wilderness, educating others about the necessity, and providing innovative, renewable solutions."
